Meeting of the Consortium of Universities, New Delhi (Aug 17-18, 2009)

The telecentre.org Academy is a flagship program of telecentre.org. The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and telecentre.org jointly hosted a meeting of the Consortium of Universities from August 17 - 18, 2009 at New Delhi. The objective of the meeting was to discuss and agree upon the modalities for operating the global telecentre.org Academy, as the participating universities were all committed to implement quality capability building programs and ensure the sustainability and responsiveness of telecentres in their respective countries or regions.

Vice Chancellors/Presidents/Heads of Office from eleven countries across the globe participated at this meeting, in addition to the Indian stakeholders. The two day meeting concluded with the signing of a Letter of Intent by the participating countries with IGNOU and IDRC, who formed The Consortium Of National Telecentre Academies / Universities.

The telecentre.org Academy would be partnering a global consortium of academia. This initiative would be led by IGNOU as a global secretariat on its premises and the telecentre networks would administer capacity building programs of telecentre.org Academy at national and region level through the telecentre.org national/regional academies. The global secretariat will function autonomously with its own governance guiding the Academy. As members of the Telecentre.org Academy, the national and regional academies will assume the roles/responsibilities as main implementers of the programmes of the Telecentre.org Academy at the country/regional level, delivering curriculum at the local level, accumulating and documenting knowledge and making such knowledge available within the Telecentre.org Academy membership, and act as consultants for training organizations at their level.
